About Chess

Chess is a timeless strategy game that combines deep tactics with long-term planning. Every move carries weight, and every decision shapes the flow of the match. It’s a battle of wits and vision, offering endless replayability and rewarding players who can anticipate, adapt, and outthink their opponent.

How to play

  • Objective: Checkmate your opponent's king while protecting your own.
  • Game setup: The game is played on an 8x8 board. Each player begins with 16 pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, 2 knights, and 8 pawns.
  • Gameplay:
    1. Players take turns moving one piece at a time, following each piece's movement rules.
    2. Piece movement:
      1. King: one square in any direction.
      2. Queen: any number of squares in any direction.
      3. Rook: any number of squares vertically or horizontally.
      4. Bishop: any number of squares diagonally.
      5. Knight: moves in an L-shape (two squares in one direction, then one square perpendicular).
      6. Pawn: one square forward (or two squares from its starting position); captures one square diagonally forward.
    3. Special moves:
      1. Castling: a move involving the king and a rook under certain conditions.
      2. En passant: a special pawn capture immediately after an opponent's two-square advance.
      3. Promotion: a pawn reaching the last rank is promoted to a queen, rook, bishop, or knight.
    4. The goal is to checkmate the opponent's king (place it under threat of capture with no legal escape).
  • Winning the game: A player wins by checkmating the opponent’s king.
  • Draw: A draw can occur in several situations (stalemate, repetition, insufficient material, etc.).
